It is possible to "halt" the game (it will not actually crash but go to 100% CPU usage, other servers on the same CPU are also affected and become VERY slow) by buying a depot, buying a multiheaded train, and then reverse the engines by dragging the back engine to the front in the depot. As soon as you do that, the game stops respoding.
On the client side, one can exit normally and go to a different server if needed. On the server side, the server process needs to be killed. There is no crash.log or crash.dmp generated, and a screenshot does not show anything but the obvious: a dual-headed train in a depot.
