Hello,

I think it would be very useful if signal defining newGRFs could make signals aware what exact track piece they are on, specifically if they are on a slope (with a certain direction) or if they are on a diagonal (and on which exact diagonal).

To illustrate my idea I attach a concept of how could some of my signals look on flat rails. With current way how it works, issues occur on slopes, but that is acceptable (like road 1-way signs) - or on diagonals where the position of signals differs based on which half of the tile the signal is on.

Apart from my implementation, I can imagine it allowing also like overhead signals or anything similar.

As of this specific concept, it aims to make signals a lot more intuitive

Thanks, V

Possibly also a spec so signals could be drawn below trains, not above them?

Currently OTTD positions the signal sprites according to the "signal side" setting on the left or right side of the track.
I don't see how this could work with signals which are not positioned next to the track.

So, this cannot be just another variable, it needs a completely different signal drawing.

Reason for closing: Won't implement

[09:39am] V453000: andythenorth: iz thing, would be cute, but it's just another nice idea that doesn't really need doing
[09:39am] V453000: probably more problems than worth
[09:39am] V453000: close af
