This would be an interesting exercise at the very least, you can sign me up as first translator if you agree.

I'll just post a patch/translation file when I have something (not soon, mind you), since that seems easy enough.

Latin? As in, the "dead" language Latin?

Can you point to a region that still uses this Latin? As in, which part of our user-base would benefit from this addition?

(serious questions btw)

(minus of course the obvious answer: vatican, as that doesn't really count :))

No other place using only Latin, but there are definitely people interested (easiest example: Latin Wikipedia). I don't know if they play OpenTTD, but why not give it a try?
If you want to go by numbers, there are probably less with knowledge of Faroese or Ido (both on the translator page) than of Latin at the moment.

In the end, I will have had something interesting to do and you get an addition to the game you don't really need to do anything for.

I was just wondering. As with any language, if you complete 90%, it gets included. Tnx for the reply :)

If you have a somewhat positive attitude about this, could you add support for it to the web translator? Or is that only done when a certain amount of work is finished?

Sadly, we only add it if a good chunk is done. Experience dictates that otherwise we have many many many many unfinished languages :D For commonly used languages we sometimes make exceptions, but for Latin .. ;)

That said, it is a nice feature request for WT3.1 .. to allow new languages without them being committed :) (atm WT3 can only handle languages that are in SVN).
