When the message area is up (e.g. "Name: whatever", if the vertical size of the OpenTTD game window is below a certain amount, the game will instantly crash.

No crash.dmp/crash.log is generated and the OpenTTD crash handler does not appear.

Are you talking about the chat window or the news window or the ingame-console?

It crashes if the maximum size of the semitransparent chat window nears the top of the screen.

The attached file shows the approximate smallest size of the window.

(The crash will not happen unless there is text actively on screen)

Just tried it myself. The crash handler appeared here though. (but it seems to freeze itself too..)

Easiest way of making it crash is simple starting a own multiplayer server, then make the openTTD window somewhat small (say 100x100), and start chatting. Infact, it even happens if you shrink the window really fast when there's a chat message up.
