Its reproduceable.

Select EUR as the default currency in your client. Join a game before the EUR can be selected (was ist 2001?). Open the default client options. Select currency, you see you selected EUR and the EUR-value is blue out. Close this selection by clicking on the [X] or clicking on the blueed EUR and the game desync.

What OS are you using? I have not been able to reproduce this bug on several OSes.

linux x86_64, but didn't know its important, thought it was independent of the OS. The mentioned network game is the #opentddcoop sandbox server.

hmm, don't know how newgrf works but the #openttdcoop sandbox server use a lot of them. It desyncs (for me) with the attached savegame. With -dnet=10 I dont get any useable informations:
