See attached screenshot: I have snow line height set to 5, but in the game snow first appears on height level 4. I'm not sure if this is intentional, or if "snow line height" is actually meant to be the level at which snow appears on other tiles (houses, roads etc.), though that is actually height level 6. This is using r24087, though I suspect it goes back much further.

As far as I know, it has been like that since TTD days. I have always understood it as the last height without snow, not as the first height with snow. I don't think that this is a bug, although it could probably be explained better ingame.

As was explained to me on the forums it is the height at which towns require food to grow, which as you say is the last height without snow. I was thinking it might be more logical to change this to the first height with snow, i.e. towns need food to grow when the buildings are covered in snow, not before.

I see, that explanation makes sense history-wise :)

That change would make in-game snow more understandable, but it would bring confusion to NewGRF development. See the following page for details:

http://newgrf-specs.tt-wiki.net/wiki/Action0/Global_Settings# Snow_line_height_table_.2810.29

Another idea would be to change the setting description. I can't think of a short description that would fit, though.

andythenorth closed the ticket.

Reason for closing: Won't implement

Changing snow line height is not a current goal for OpenTTD :)

Flyspray clean up: more than 5 years old, and not obvious what should be done with this next, so closing. If this offends, discuss with andythenorth in irc. Thanks.
