Hi,
In the attached save from 1.2 RC2, there is a city Domazlice (population 1500). The city info says that needs water to grow. But I'm not able to fund the Water tower there. The error message says that I can build it only in the city. But Domazlice is a city so should be possible to fund it there. The same bug is with bank funding. It is also not possible to fund it in the city. I have a different game, where is city with population 24000, without bank, but I'm not able to fund the bank there.

I don't know, if it worked in previous versions, I've started to play openttd a short time ago. But according to wiki ( http://wiki.openttd.org/Bank ), it should work. Also in the wiki, there is sentence: The cursor will indicate the upper right corner of the 2x1 squares that the bank will occupy. - but my cursor is 1x1.

You have to build banks and water towers on top of existing houses.

This has always been like that, and we never found a nice way to document it.

Thanks, it works that way. At least the error message is confusing. I think there should be something like: Only already existing house in the city could be adapted to a Bank.
Similar for a water town.

And the second think is, why is the cursor only 1x1 as there should be 2x1 for a Bank.

Is it possible to change this behaviour so that banks and water towers can be built anywhere in a town, not just on top of certain buildings?

This is the traditional TTD behaviour. NewGRFs can change that. (Btw. it's not "certain" buildings, but any house)

Default TTD only knows these two town-related placement-types:
* Only allow building on top of houses (banks, water tower)
* Only allow building in proximity of the town sign (toy shop)

Btw. it's not "certain" buildings, but any house

It is not true. At least in the attached save, there is a city Udoli nad lesy where I'm not able to build a bank. I got messages: Unusable place or Has to be build in the city. Terrain is quite difficult and there are no houses that could be changed to a bank. It would help to have possibility do build a Bank on free place. Otherwise I have to wait for correct house build by city itself.

You are not using the default bank. The bank available in that save is from "Total Town Replacement Set 3.13" (you can see the providing GRF by using the "questionmark"-tool on a build industry). You have to check that set about the requirements for its bank.
(NewGRFs can also supply detailed messages when construction of industries fails; but TTRS does not seem to do this.)

Frosch: I know it's the traditional behaviour, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be changed. Perhaps it is other factors (such as sloped land) that prevent industries from being built over some houses, in which case it would be a significant improvement if the error messages were less obscure. "Can only be built in towns" is not helpful if you are trying to build in a town, just not on top of an existing building(s); "Site unsuitable" is not helpful without knowing why.

Reason for closing: Fixed

in r24040; though translators also will have to update messages
