I introduced some new Palette constants for having more alpha values. Then I made the field sprites animated and fade the new field type in with alpha blending.
So for some time you see both field types. It looks quite good and very smooth. Although a bit strange for the part, where the balls appear at the field.

andythenorth closed the ticket.

Reason for closing: Won't implement

This is not a current goal for OpenTTD. The blunt animation style is part of the character of the game. Thanks.
