When using the random tree tool at the scenario editor (both with manual placement and random placement of trees at all the map) in the tropical climate, the trees are not really placed at random but they follow a discernable pattern instead, as shown in the screenshot. The pattern is less obvious in subartic (below snowline), but it can be seen too.
If I remember correctly, it happens even when you plant one given tree type in the area (not "random"). So the problem isn't in "random" generator, but in influence of x/y coordinates on tree graphics.
No idea, just want to add:
In tropic choosen treetype is also influenced by the "tropic zone" of the tile.
When creating a random map, first the tropic zones (normal, desert, rainforest) are created, then the trees are planted.
However, in SE you can only "plant" "desert" manually. "rainforest" is defined when planting rainforest-specific trees. Which might result in some weired recursively broken logic :p
