The state machines of some airports could use improvement in the plane movement on them. See the attached three screenshots where I marked the points where the planes - as I see it - turn too much or take an unnecessary long way to their destination.

The only thing no marked (but mentioned) is the entry point for planes on the international airport which approach it from the upper left; They show a bouncing behaviour when entering the flight loop of it - showing in the title savegame nicely.

Unfortunately it does not. I attached a savegame with all but the small airport.

- Most notably some plane keep to stick in the air holding loop for WAY too long, if not infinitely long now.
- Many terminals on most airports are left by the planes with too much turning around.
- there are a few other places left which I marked ingame.
- New is the test of the Intercontinental which has the terminal problem and funny paths when heading to / from the Hangars (see detailed description ingame)

Edit: a though which just occured to me wrt the "staying in the approach loop": maybe they're too fast so that they always go past the point for "descent to runway" now?

I think I fixed the latest issues in r18395/r18396. Can you test it again to confirm this?

There is still superfluous movement of airplanes in the metropolitan airport.

Please describe these superfluous movements, preferably with a savegame that shows them within a few seconds.

I will attach a savegame if needed - there's a lot of GRFs used and might be inconvenient.

Red - Current movement (superfluous)
Yellow - Preferred movement (i.e. just cut the sharp turn)
Green - Fastest route (NOT recommended because it makes the game too easy)

I am still playing the game, in 1987. So I have to wait to check out the international and intercontinental airports.
And so far the City airport is OK.

This is in r18641

The aircraft will take the yellow route in r18661 and later. Please report any more problems you find.

Game is in 1992. The routes are OK for me in the international airport.
Please stay tuned for the intercontinental airport.

It is OK for intercontinental airport.
But...
I am thinking that the highlighted hangar should move forward one tile so that it has the same position as the other one, it looks odd currently. Will that affect routing?
Also...
Can the highlighted hangar be reversed so that the entrance is facing its runway?

It's alright if any/both of them cannot be done, then it's 'CASE CLOSED'.
