The data for the handling in the client side is still exactly the same; a value bigger than 0 and a value not equal to 0 result in the same when testing the value for 0. So they haven't become incompatible with eachother. Therefor I don't see any need to bump the variable AND make it impossible for old clients to read it when NOTHING important has changed.
