Hello at all,

I would like to suggest a change in the prospecting functionallity. It would be nice to be able to declare a position from where the "geologists" begin to "search" for "ressources". There could be a notification if they fail to find something and it could cost the half then or something like this. But it is just annoying to have an Iron Ore Mine on the other side of the map and spent money for it.

I imagine it like this:
- Select a point from where on the geologist shall search
- If they succeed: Place a mine in the surrounding of the point given and pay the full price
- If they fail: No mine is constructed and only the half price (full price? 3/4 of the price?) is paid.

Whilst IMHO this is a really nice idea, it would be too complex to actually implement:
- would likely require additional settings, e.g. type of prospecting (whole map, range), and a distance setting for the range
- would not interact well with some newgrf industries, which can limit location in ways that would conflict with player trying to choose a region
- is too much work relative to the gameplay benefit.

*However*, most of this idea could be provided in newgrf.
1. build a cheap 'survey camp' industry (at a location of your choice)
2. prospect for an industry, which must locate within a certain distance of a survey camp
3. the survey camp automatically closes after a certain number of months

This wouldn't affect the cost of prospecting.
