When the mouse button is depressed and a section of track has been drawn out, then one of the hotkeys pressed to change the rail to a different type, say from north-south to the autorail tool, the mouse behaves as though the button is not pressed in. I would suggest having it register a new down-click in the current position with the new track type.
I don't really get what you mean. I dragged out a piece with autorail, kept the LMB depressed, then pressed 1 for the | piece. It gets pressed (autorail depressed) and I only have 1 tile highlighted at the position of my mouse. I think this is the correct behaviour. No?
pick a tool that permits dragging. Drag somewhere else but don't release the LMB
switch to another tool that permits dragging using a numbered hotkey. The original track drag vanishes.
move the mouse to another tile. The current tile is hilighted as though the LMB is not depressed. This feels unintuitive, one of two things should happen:
either:
a) the new tool behaves as though the LMB was freshly depressed at the point where it was selected
or:
b) the new tool behaves as though the LMB was depressed at the place where it was depressed at the start of step 1) above.
but NOT the current behaviour:
c) act as though the LMB is up.
